Experience a combination of authentic Karoo meals, hospitality, desert wildlife and world class fishing and adrenaline activities on the Orange River. Explore the beauty and tranquillity of the Karoo and Orange River at Tzamenkomst River Lodge (Gariep). Share the hidden treasures of this arid landscape, which is a combination of farming, game and unique fauna and flora (Bat eared fox, Cape Fox, Aardvark, Striped pole cat, Black footed cat, Gemsbok, Giraffe, Eland and many other plains game).
River conditions continually change depending on the levels and discharge of water from Gariep & Vd Kloof dams. Conditions may be rapids + pools (smallies, muddies, carp, cat fish in rapids and large mouth yellows in pools or bank structure with bait fish fly patterns) or deeper flowing with islands and bays (large mouth yellows in deeper parts of river or bank structure with bait fish patterns, small mouth yellows along bank or riffles with nymphs or minkies and carp, cat fish, muddies in the bays with hopper dropper rigs). This beautiful stretch offers some of the best waters in South Africa for sport & fly fishing (catch & release) for large and small mouth yellows , birding and spectacular scenery.
We will fish from the banks, wade or use fishing stable Fluid fishing kayaks to access to the fishing areas within the surrounding river areas.

Your flyfishing will be hosted by experienced fly fishing guides from Sundowner Fly fishing Adventures.
Where:
Tzamenkomst River Lodge is located close to Gariep Town , South Africa (Karoo) , 630 km from Johannesburg. It is just off the N1 highway between Bloemfontein and Beaufort West. The fishing takes place on the Orange River, 22 km down river from Gariep Dam.

Itinerary
Day 1
Own transport to Tzamenkomst River Lodge. Briefing, set up fly-fishing gear and afternoon fishing session on the river. Relax and watch the amazing Karoo sunset before grabbing a shower and heading off for dinner. Single or shared accommodation with en’ suite bathrooms.
Day 2
- Early breakfast before heading to the morning fishing session.
- Head back for a relaxing midday rest out of the sun.
- Afternoon fishing session.
- Relax with a cold beverage while watching a captivating Karoo sunset.
- Quick shower before enjoying a mouth watering dinner and sharing the days fishing highlights.
Day 3
- Depart early from the lodge to be dropped off at the starting point of the drift. One and two seater Fluid fishing kayaks (very stable and easy to row) are provided. The drift allows us to access multiple prime fishing locations along the route. At midday we stop at a beautiful beach to relax out of the heat of the sun. Complete the rest of the drift and fish down to the lodge. The drift is not demanding as the river flows the whole route from put in to the take out point at the lodge. Packed breakfast is provided, guests supply own packed lunch and drinks (or it can be organized)
- Be mesmerized by the beauty of the Karoo sunset while savoring a cold beverage
- Freshen up, then head to dinner to enjoy a delicious meal and share stories about the days adventure.

Day 4
3 night/4 day package

Other details:
We recommended a reasonable fitness level for rowing and fishing during the canoeing (majority drifting down-stream with the river current).
The Large mouth yellow fish is often regarded as "a fish of a 1000 casts. You will often be required to cast into the wind or master the backwards cast. We can assist with an evaluation and training prior to the trip if required.
