Richtersveld Orange River Sport and Flyfishing Adventure
Sundowner Flyfishing Adventures has partnered with Xama Adventures and The Growcery Camp to offer a bucket list sport fishing adventure on the Orange River through the Richtersveld in Northern Cape. Experience a combination of wholesome tasty meals, warm hospitality, desert wildlife, world class fishing and adrenaline activities on the Orange River. Explore the beauty and tranquility of the Richtersveld as you share the hidden treasures of this arid landscape, which is a breath- taking wilderness of desert, mountains and ribbon of life where the Orange River flows.
Rafting takes place on over 20 km of the Orange River with mild rapids and pools. This beautiful stretch offers some of the best waters in South Africa for sport & fly fishing (catch & release). Our main quarry includes large mouth yellows (bucket list) and small mouth yellows, catfish and mud fish. Accommodation is a combination of The Chic Shacks (basic but comfortable) with shared ablutions and camping on the river. We all pitch in for the camping portion to help with loading/unloading rafts and setting up sleeping stretchers while meals are prepared by the Growcery/SFA team. Non fishing partners are welcome to join the fishing guests on the trips.

If you are travelling down to the Vioolsdrif area and you only have limited time available then you may like to opt for a half day, full day or overnight guided fishing activity.

Itinerary
Day 1
Own transport to The Growcery Camp. Dinner and prepare for fishing the following day. Shared accommodation with clean communal ablutions.
Day 2
Depart after early breakfast with lodge transport for 45 min drive up-river to the Vioolsdrif weir. Day spent fishing the channels in the this highly productive area. Light lunch included. Head back to The Growcery to spend the night and enjoy a well-deserved dinner.
Day 3
Depart Growcery after early breakfast. 10 km drift through rapid and pools , stopping to fish for Large mouth and small mouth Yellow fish, muddies and cat fish. Midday siesta and light lunch. At the end of the day we set camp on the side of the river. Bush dinner and soak in the canopy of stars. Option of targeting some monster cat fish on a night line.
Day 4
Depart river camp after early breakfast. Drift through rapid and pools , stopping to fish for Large mouth and small mouth Yellow fish, muddies and cat fish.. Midday siesta and light lunch. At the end of the day we set camp on the side of the river. Bush dinner and soak in the canopy of stars. Option of targeting some monster cat fish on a night line
Day 5
Depart river camp for early morning start. Drift through rapids and pools while targeting Large mouth and small mouth Yellow fish, muddies and cat fish. Midday siesta and light lunch. At the end of the day we take out the rafts. Drive back to Growcery for the nights accommodation. Dinner and a chat around the fire.
Day 6
Get up early for breakfast before the drive back home.

You will be hosted on the river by experienced canoeing and fly-fishing guides from Umkulu Safaris and Sundowner Fly fishing Adventures.

3 nights at The Growcery Camp on a Dinner, bed, breakfast basis
